Just try not to cut when grass is wet and also blow the clippings out after each cut. I am refurbing a 42" deck, so may try a Por15 product underneath. They have some nice products. Just keep the wet grass off it, don't let grass build up sit on there over winter storage. I do sometimes spray rust converter on there at the end of the season just so it does not rust over winter. If you are looking to make it slick so stuff doesn't stick maybe adding graphite paint is your ticket. POR 15 was still on my mower deck 5 years after application when I sold it.
