Also with spring weather being variable in temperature, would you recommend covering the flaunching with plastic sheets to avoid it drying out to quickly on the warmer days? I'm a mason, we never use play sand for mortar, at least in this area (upstate Ny), it's known to shrink and crack, and make the mortar strength fail.
